Collection: The Quilt Codes of the Underground Railroad

Quilts were used to transmit messages to the conductors of The Underground Railroad. The quilts were hung on fences and out of windows. this was done right under the noses of the slave owners. This body of work contains some of the essential codes. I have used some of the main patterns in this body of work. Throughout the history of the United States there have been movements and resistance to tyranny. Here is a brilliant example of one such movement. We must preserve these pieces of history that are brilliant examples of how people stood up to tyranny.
