This is a large collograph, made with embossed Thai paper. It is part of the essential Quilt Codes of the Underground Railroad. Many believe that quilts were used to transmit messages. They were hung out of windows or on rail fences to help those escaping slavery. The "conductors" knew the meaning of each pattern. This code means to prepare the wagons to begin the escape.
