Drunkard’s Path #1 depicts one of the essential Quilt Codes of the Underground Railroad. This pattern is believed to have instructed those escaping slavery to travel in a zigzag path through the woods, an evasive route meant to throw off the slave owners who were out hunting them with dogs.
This original collagraph is made from a raised image on a flat plate. The plate is sealed and inked, and cotton rag paper is laid on top and run through a press to transfer the image. The result is a bold, textured print that echoes the geometry of a traditional quilt.
At 22" x 30", it is a large statement piece that brings history and craftsmanship into a living room, study, classroom, or office. It’s a thoughtful addition for collectors of quilt art, American history art, and folk art. It arrives unframed so you can choose the frame that fits your décor.
